The paintings in this series portray simpler days and quiet ways — snapping beans on the front porch, hanging up clothes in the back yard, sledding down a nearby hill…
These paintings take us back through time in the northern Great Lakes area several centuries to millenia. The glaciers’ departure 10,000 years ago left a rich legacy of lakes, streams and bogs behind. The land quickly renewed itself and when Paleo-Indians entered the area they found good hunting here…
Three of the greatest freshwater lakes in the world (Superior, Huron and Michigan) mingle their waters here; American Indian families gathered and their leaders held council on sacred Turtle Island…
The descendents of the French voyageurs and their spirit can still be felt in smaller towns like St. Ignace, Manistique, L’Anse, Naubinway, on the Garden Peninsula, and along the waterways and in the woodlands that once echoed to the haunting flutes of the Anishinaabe and the chansons of the voyageurs…
Tho’ they may be materially poor, such country childhoods are full of the magic of the woods, waters, and changing seasons, and rich in family love…
